| Awarding Ceremony of 2008 Academia Sinica Research Award for Junior Research Investigators |
Every year Academia Sinica confers the “Research Award for Junior Research Investigators” to exceptional scholars in Taiwan. This award is symbolic as it is the only prize that recognizes scholars’ achievement early in their careers at the national level.
Now in its 13th year, Academia Sinica Research Award for Junior Research Investigators has been pursued by many young academics in Taiwan and it has been perceived as a great honor.
The awards are given in three main categories and this year a total of 169 applications were received - 66 in the Mathematics and Physical Sciences division, 36 in the Life Sciences division, and 67 in the Humanities and Social Sciences division. All submissions underwent a stringent review procedure including pre-screening, initial review, 2nd stage review, and a final review.

On 9 June, an open award ceremony was hosted by the President of Academia Sinica Dr. Chi-Huey Wong for this year’s winners. During the ceremony, winners briefly presented their winning publications in three minutes.
The awardees each received a certificate and a cash prize of NT$200,000. Additionally, they also have NT$300,000 for research expenditures to be used within two years following the receipt of the award.
